Marigolds by Eugenia Collier

Many people have struggled once in their life time. Struggling is when you have a problem and you are not able to deal with it. For example, slavery. Back in the day, slaves struggled through a lot of difficulties because of their skin color. In my opinion, when someone is struggling in a situation I believe you should deal with the situation the best you possibly can. Otherwise, if you don't, you'll struggle even more with that situation.
I believe people should deal with the problem they're struggling with as best as they can because if they deal with it in a negative way, they'll regret it later. The story, "Marigolds" by Eugenia Collier is about a young woman, Lizabeth living in the Great Depression, growing up in a poverty town. In the story, Lizabeth hears her parents arguing and she decided to go to Miss Lottie's house and she ended up tearing up all of Miss Lottie's marigolds. In this part of the story, the narrator states, "In that humiliating moment i looked beyond myself and into the depths of another person. This was the beginning of compassion, and one cannot have both compassion and innocence." This shows that when you struggle you should deal with it as best you can because now Lizabeth believe she lost her innocence because of what she did to Miss Lottie. This is why you should deal with the problem your struggling with the best as you can or else you'll regret it later.
